Thank you, Steve, for helping to spread the word about good hearing protection habits. It may seem like a small thing, but just telling people they have a choice about how they cope with our noisy world can be life-changing.
Everybody knows what ear plugs are. Everyone has to endure high levels of noise at some point, whether it's at work, while riding the subway, at a sporting event or concert, or just while mowing the lawn. Do we need ear plugs for ALL of these noisy experiences? Probably not. But having the option to block some of that noise can drastically improve your life.
Sound can be wonderful -- or absolutely devastating. (Just ask anyone who lives with a loud snorer.)
Know the facts. Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent. So every concert, stereo-blasting car trip, leaf blower, gunshot, jackhammer, and foghorn you hear chips away at something you can never get back.
Figuring out when to use ear plugs is easy. If you think it might be too loud, it probably is. Simply using ear plugs when the noise around you seems too loud to be comfortable can go a long way to help preserve a lifetime of good hearing.
And there are so many wonderful things to hear out there.
Like music. In New Orleans.
Thanks, Steve.
Until next time, be safe and love your ears.
