Not all hotels are created equal -- but even if you're booked at the best suite in town, sleeping well in a strange hotel room can be hard. Unfortunately, odds are good that if you're not sleeping well on your vacation, you're going to be feeling more stressed and less energetic, which means you won't be able to get the most out of your hard-earned holiday. Follow our three-step hotel room survival guide to make sure missing sleep doesn't leave you missing out on a great vacation. |
1) Travel with white noise. Bringing your own white noise machine lets you create a portable bubble of peace no matter where you go. The Sound Oasis S-850 Travel White Noise Alarm Clock is small and easy to pack, it offers 18 digitally recorded sounds to help block out whatever's going on in the next room over and soothe you to sleep, and it also offers three alarm sound types to help you wake up right on time in the morning. With sleep timers, a backlit clock and digital calendar, and a voice memo function, this small white noise machine is perfect for portable sound conditioning and noise blocking on the go. Powered by 4 "AA" batteries (not included) and comes with a travel pouch and world time zone map!
2) Make it quiet. Sleeping in a strange new place means dealing with strange new sounds that could disturb your sleep and keep you up at night. Bring ear plugs for sleeping to cut down on nighttime noises. With a travel white noise machine and a pair of soft foam ear plugs, you can snooze away peacefully in even the noisiest of accommodations. A Just the Softest/Smallest Foam Ear Plug Trial Pack is an excellent and inexpensive way to test out different foam plugs for sleeping. I also highly recommend Flent's Ear Stopples and Quies Boules ear plugs for sleeping: both are extremely popular wax and cotton moldable ear plugs, and they're very comfortable even if you sleep on your side.
3) Make it dark. Don't depend on a hotel you've never visited before to keep your room dark when YOU want to sleep -- bring your own sleep mask! The Hearos Sleep Pretty in Pink Contour Sleep Mask provides a total blackout experience, and the pretty pink color is sure to please! If pink is not your thing, the Mack's Shut-Eye Shade Sleep Mask is a simple sleep mask in plain black, perfect for no-nonsense light blocking for a good night's sleep. Finally, I love the Mack's Dreamweaver Sleep Mask because it provides a contoured black sleep mask, a pair of Mack's Ultra Safe Sound Earplugs, and a matching black travel pouch to carry everything in -- talk about no-hassle packing!
Don't spend your family vacation feeling tired and worn out. Prepare well, follow our three-step hotel room survival guide, and get the sleep and rest you need to really enjoy your vacation! If you make it quiet, make it dark, and block unwanted sounds with a good travel white noise machine, you can sleep well wherever you go -- no matter which hotel you picked.
Until next time, be safe and do the right thing.

Great tips!, I never seem to get a good nights rest if i'm not in my own bed. Maybe it has something to do with this.
